How Often Should You Get Your Blood Sugar Checked?

For adults with no diabetes risk factors, a blood sugar check as part of a routine annual check-up is generally sufficient. If you have risk factors — family history, high BMI, high blood pressure, or a prior prediabetes result — annual or twice-yearly testing is more appropriate, even without symptoms.
If you're already diagnosed with diabetes, testing frequency depends heavily on your treatment: some patients on stable oral medication may need HbA1c checks every 3 to 6 months, while those on insulin often self-monitor daily or several times a day at home.
This is general guidance, not a personal treatment plan — your actual testing schedule should be set with your doctor based on your specific diagnosis, medications, and how well-controlled your levels have been recently.
